Welcome to The Creative Connection Project

Creativity, dialogue, and story cultivate the imagination, sparking the joy that helps us live more connected lives

Caring, Connecting, Communicating

This is a place for those who believe in the power of listening, creative expression, and caring communication to shape a more connected world.

The Creative Connection Project is grounded in the belief that human beings call ourselves into being through communication. We come to know ourselves, connect to others, and shape our world through caring conversation, based on dialogue, shared creativity, and deep listening.

Rooted in dialogical theory, ethnography, and classical studies, this framework draws from a wide lineage—Reuel Howe’s The Miracle of Dialogue, Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogism, Ray Oldenburg’s third-place thinking, and the creative legacies of thinkers like da Vinci and Einstein. It builds upon the foundational truth that we are social, creative, meaning-making beings—and that the erosion of meaningful communication is at the heart of our disconnection crisis.

The Creative Connection Project brings together storytelling, appreciative inquiry, and community design to reignite dialogue, belonging, and wonder. It offers tools, language, and practices that foster presence, empathy, and creativity—whether through writing, coaching, workshops, or community circles.

This is not a rigid methodology but a living practice. A conversation. A contribution to the Great Conversation that stretches across time, place, and voice. At its heart is the belief that when we care, connect, and communicate, we build lives—and communities—worth living in.

Shitty First Drafts and The Curious Case of Zebra Fish – Why Linguistics Matters in AI

You won’t find great writers like John McPhee or Anne Lamott using ChatGPT to write for them. You won’t find linguistics experts, who go out into the field to conduct ethnographic research, using ChatGPT to write for them because all great writing relies on specific, relevant details that are fresh and derived from the source. This is either a person that you can talk to, or a vetted document where the person is being quoted, but it is not information that ChatGPT is pulling from somewhere in the bowels of its “memory.” This is obvious when you think about it, but we tend to overlook how important primary sources are. This is what these AI tools are searching the web for in the beginning, but they are doing it without context, missing the most important patterns of human language. So, when you work inside the tool, you have no idea who or what the information is derived from. It’s just random content that the model was “trained” on. This is erroneous and dangerous and in order for these tools to be truly useful, we must demand transparency
